UNICERA 2021 Sees the Future in Hygiene and Sustainability
Held from 2 to 6 November, UNICERA showcased the latest developments in ceramics, kitchens and bathrooms, with hygiene and sustainability as its central themes.
As in many other fields, Turkish design attracts attention in ceramics, kitchens and bathrooms through innovative work that leads on the world stage. As a result, UNICERA, held in Türkiye, is a leading influence on the mainstream, drawing the world’s attention to the new products and philosophies presented there.
More than a trend: an urgent global need
With the pandemic still on the agenda this year, the need for personal hygiene in living spaces was perhaps one of the exhibition’s most important trends. It is hardly surprising that hygiene, strongly emphasised by brands, will remain a primary need for users in the future. If we recognise that personal hygiene in wet areas also benefits society, then the fact that domestic arrangements, building elements, solutions and decorative choices can serve not only individuals but also the wider community becomes a powerful, engaging lesson in consumer awareness. It therefore needs to be understood and embraced as a philosophy for living, rather than simply a passing direction.
Like hygiene, another issue serves the common good and allows end-user behaviour to shape the planet’s future: sustainability. Addressing the growing and worrying problem of overconsumption requires us to put sustainability firmly on the table. As people of all ages become more aware of this philosophy, design that values the health of the environment and the planet gains importance. Design that saves energy, materials and water, avoids pollution and can be recycled is not subject to the doubts and delays experienced by other movements passing through our lives. This perspective is urgently needed and is gaining support rapidly.
Our most important responsibility as end users is to follow the work of brands that take these issues seriously and choose products that reflect that sensitivity. The collections through which the Kale family, a pioneer in hygiene-focused and sustainable design, expressed its brand philosophy at UNICERA 2021 Istanbul are distinctive examples. Kaleseramik presented innovative products, designs, materials and technologies from Çanakkale Seramik, Kalebodur, Kale Banyo, Edilcuoghi Edilgres and T-ONE by Kale, the new product group born from Kalesinterflex. At the “İyi Bak Dünyana” (Take Care of Your World) area within its stand, it shared projects creating social benefit and impact. As part of Kale Group’s movement of the same name, launched to build a better life, visitors were offered new experiences through a highly interactive and inspiring concept.
Kale Group selected recyclable materials for 91% of its exhibition stand. Through this movement, launched to contribute to people’s expectations of a good life, inspire them and show how everyone can create an impact on society by starting with themselves, the group is shaping not only the present but also the future. T-ONE by Kale is one of the most distinctive product families in this respect.
T-ONE by Kale
Developed by Kalesinterflex, T-ONE by Kale takes porcelain ceramics beyond their traditional uses. In addition to being the thinnest porcelain ceramic slab produced in Türkiye, it is an innovative surface solution that makes a difference throughout living spaces. This next-generation design addresses a broad range of applications, from kitchen worktops and bathroom furniture to tables and TV units.
The T-ONE series developed by Kale means much more than a porcelain material. Focusing on environmental and human health, a pressing concern in today’s society, T-ONE brings hygiene and aesthetics together under one name as a pioneer of design that delivers benefits. Representing the character of next-generation kitchens, where hygiene meets aesthetics and function, the T-ONE series offers long-lasting products that withstand environmental conditions and resist scratching, breakage, staining and temperature changes, thanks to a special lamination treatment applied to every product. Available in options including Calacatta, Highway Kemik, Hued Antrasit and Gri, Innovation Bej, White and Mega Siyah, Leccese Gri, Luxury Cement Gri and Vizon, and Metalik Antrasit, the series offers distinctive properties such as low water absorption close to zero, flame resistance, easy cleaning, high resistance to scratching, staining, abrasion and breakage, and high UV resistance.
