Twin Basins for Large Families

Although often chosen for en-suite bathrooms, twin-basin systems also save time in bathrooms shared by large families. If your bathroom has room for a surface with two basins, you might consider this option.

You do not need a special design to create a twin-basin arrangement. Simply buy two of your chosen basin and tap models. What you need is a wide worktop and a decision on the cupboard design beneath the basins. You can place two basins on the same worktop or create two separate counters. Side-by-side basins are preferable from a plumbing perspective, but depending on the shape of your bathroom, you can also position them opposite each other.Another solution uses two matching taps with one large basin. The basin must be large enough for two people to use at the same time. Keep it in mind as a useful space-saving idea.

To avoid confusion when using twin basins, couples are advised to each use the same basin consistently. You can then keep your personal-care items in the nearby cupboard and prevent clutter. A dividing element can be created between the two basins, either rising above the worktop or sitting below its level.

In a bathroom with two basins, placing the toilet in an enclosed compartment makes the arrangement work more easily. An enclosed toilet and shower area can sit side by side at the rear of the room. This leaves sufficient space for the basins while protecting users' privacy.

With twin basins, you need to think in pairs. There should be one large mirror spanning both basins or two smaller mirrors, with adequate lighting, electrical sockets, shelf and cupboard space, and a towel rail for each person's area. Even floor rugs need to be considered as a pair.
