Every day, more people recognise how their choices affect the environment they live in and change their lifestyles accordingly. They not only change personal habits but also demand more sustainable production methods from the brands they use and try to challenge environmentally harmful practices that have become the norm.Over time, these individual choices prompted major companies to act, and environmentally considerate practices spread rapidly throughout production, distribution and even waste recovery.
Sustainability in Ceramics
By investing in impact-focused circular projects for a sustainable future and calling on us to #İyiBakDünyana, Kale Group aims to leave a more liveable world to future generations.
Sustainability emerged as a movement when we began to realise that nature was being lost over time. It is a global movement because it encompasses every moment of life, every person on earth and every action we take. It ranges from individual habits, such as turning off the tap while brushing our teeth, to large-scale decisions such as reusing factory waste. Every country, through laws; every company, through decisions; and every individual, through habits, takes steps to protect nature and create a sustainable world.
Certified, environmentally conscious production
Kale Group has also adopted a sustainable approach to leave a greener world to future generations. Setting out the environmental impacts of its materials in detail, Kaleseramik became the first company in Türkiye to obtain the internationally recognised Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) and the Health Product Declaration (HPD) for its wall tile product groups. The HPD certificate, representing a higher level of LEED certification, one of the world's most prestigious green-building rating systems, is regarded as one of the most important requirements for WELL certification, which aims to improve health standards in buildings.
Users want to know what is in the products they buy
Global warming and sustainable production, already priorities for the international community and particularly the United Nations before the pandemic, gained even greater importance during it. Today, architects, investors and users choosing materials prefer manufacturers that disclose the contents of their building products. For years, Kaleseramik has approached all its activities, from design to production, holistically, guided by the principle that 'there is no other world'. To leave future generations a more liveable, sustainable world, it strives to conduct every part of its economic activity, from production and trade to supply chains and efficiency, with respect for the environment and nature. In this context, the Kaleseramik R&D Centre runs and supports many innovative projects that will shape the sector, from waste prevention and raw materials to finished products and improvements in materials and processes, in line with innovation and sustainability principles.
Following improvements at its production facilities, the Kaleseramik plant was named 'Türkiye's Most Efficient Industrial Facility' by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources in 2013. Increasing recovery rates by more than 70% helps save the water and energy needed for production while contributing to the sustainability of raw materials.
By making its production processes transparent and obtaining independently verified EPDs for products in six main production categories, Kaleseramik reached an important milestone in its sustainability journey. After successfully passing the highest-standard indoor air quality tests in five product groups, it qualified for GREENGUARD GOLD certification. Its Kale Wall-Hung Toilet with Smart Flushing System, developed through the 'Smart' approach, received the Golden Plumb award from the Building Information Centre, described as the Oscar of the Turkish building sector. All for a more sustainable world...
