The successful products and projects of 2022 have been announced at the “Investing in the Future” Awards, organised by Türkiye İMSAD since 2017 to support sustainable development. Bringing meaning to living spaces through innovative products while delivering socially responsible projects, Kaleseramik received awards in two categories at the sixth edition of this important construction industry event.
Following an independent jury’s assessment of 28 projects, Atölye Kale won first place in the Social category. Developed as part of Kaleseramik’s work for social benefit, the initiative recognises women as a growing force in the economy and aims to support their work and increase the number of leading women entrepreneurs. Cura Tile, developed with sustainable production and user health in mind, won third place in the Economy category.
The winning projects in the Environment, Economy and Social categories received their awards at a special ceremony organised by Türkiye İMSAD.
Awarded first place in the Social category, Atölye Kale is a project focused on social benefit and ensuring that women’s work receives the recognition it deserves. Founded at Kaleseramik’s factory in Çan, Çanakkale, and inspired by the company’s belief in women’s strength and potential in business, Atölye Kale aims to increase women’s participation in production and support women entrepreneurs in this field.
Through its distinctive creations, Atölye Kale has demonstrated that women can achieve remarkable business success when given the necessary support and opportunities. One of its foremost achievements is the “Red Sphere” at the heart of Atatürk Cultural Centre, an iconic venue in Türkiye’s cultural and artistic life. Each tile of the Red Sphere, a striking example of ceramics transformed into art, was individually handcrafted at Atölye Kale.
Alongside this distinctive cultural legacy, Atölye Kale brings consumers kitchen and bathroom products made by women at its ceramics workshop in Çan, as well as products from women-founded brands such as Designmixer, Homemade Aromaterapi and Masuma Ceramics. Every product sold through the Atölye Kale platform contributes to girls’ education, supporting the development of tomorrow’s strong women.
Cura Tile, developed by Kaleseramik with sustainable production and user health in mind, received third place in the Economy category at the same awards.
A strong example of Kaleseramik’s sustainability work, Cura Tile was developed by the Kaleseramik R&D Centre in collaboration with the İTÜ Molecular Biology, Biotechnology and Genetics Research Centre and the Ceramic Research Centre (SAM). The project therefore embodies interdisciplinary collaboration and scientific research and development. Built on the principles of “People–Design–Innovation”, Cura Tile aims to improve indoor air quality as well as energy efficiency in production.
Its distinctive nanoporous structure breathes, helping maintain indoor humidity within an ideal range throughout the year while also acting against harmful microorganisms that can remain airborne and cause various health problems. Developed with user health in mind to address indoor-air-quality-related health problems described by the World Health Organization as “Sick Building Syndrome”, Cura Tile received “Green Guard Gold” certification after achieving high performance against international testing standards.
Cura Tile’s signature series was designed jointly by Ayşe Birsel, recognised among the design world’s 100 most creative people, and Bibi Seck.
