It is as though there are openings in the space that swallow its life energy. The reason, and the solution, may lie in the teachings of Feng Shui.

Bathrooms and toilets, where we cleanse ourselves of dirt and toxins, are areas where water constantly flows away and negative energy is emitted. Their doors should therefore always remain closed. Experts also advise against excessive bathroom decoration and consider it beneficial to conceal exposed pipes and fittings inside cupboards or walls. Beyond this, colour is the most important element in balancing energy. Remember that the colour you notice most when you first enter the bathroom is what matters. Aim to establish that impression. There is no need to tear out existing tiles: accessories, bathroom textiles and curtains can adjust the perceived colour and achieve the shade you want.

In which part of your home is the bathroom?

Look at the floor plan of your home. You can use the methods associated with the direction of your bathroom to turn the home's energy positive.

If your bathroom is in the south-east of your home

This may lead to recurring unnecessary expenses, difficulty saving money and financial losses. To prevent these, use white and metallic accessories in the bathroom. Hang a dagger with an upward-curving tip above the door frame. Avoid green and blue.

If your bathroom is in the south of your home

This may bring problems such as gossip, loss of reputation and difficulty gaining promotion. To prevent them, place a jar of water in a corner of the bathroom. You can add a plant that does not require sunlight or coloured stones to the water. Avoid red. Use earthy tones, or blue, black and turquoise.

If your bathroom faces east

Health problems, family discord and rebellious behaviour in children may arise. To prevent these, use white and metal accessories. Avoid green and blue shades, and do not place green plants in the bathroom.

If your bathroom is in the north-east of your home

Children may experience educational difficulties, and problems with personal development may arise. To prevent these, place green plants that prefer low light in the bathroom. Green and dark brown shades, wooden cupboards and wooden accessories are suitable.

If your bathroom is in the north of your home

Difficulties at work, low earnings, unproductive investments, lack of advancement and laziness may occur. To prevent this negativity, use green and earthy tones, wood and ceramic accessories. Avoid metallic and glass accessories, as well as black, white, grey and blue shades, in north-facing bathrooms.

If your bathroom is in the north-west of your home

Communication difficulties, unrest among family members and health problems may occur. To prevent them, hang lamps that light the bathroom brightly. Use red, pink, orange and yellow accessories.

If your bathroom is in the west of your home

Problems with children, difficulty having children, restricted creativity and anxiety about the future may arise. To prevent these, create a bathroom in cheerful, lively colours. Use red, pink, orange, poppy red and bright yellow in the details. Never use metal accessories.

If your bathroom is in the south-west of your home

Marital problems, unhappiness in relationships and health problems may occur. To prevent them, use shades of green, wooden accessories or metal accessories. Never use ceramic accessories or crystals.

If your bathroom is at the centre of your home

Family unrest and bad luck may arise. To prevent these, use green and dark brown objects and wooden cupboards. You can add pictures of green plants or flowers. Avoid earthy tones and natural stone.
