You could arrange the basin, toilet and bath or shower along a single wall. Alternatively, place the basin and toilet on one wall, with the bath or shower and storage cabinets on the opposite wall in a parallel arrangement. The first option is cost-effective, while the second provides more flexibility in the design. Positioning each on a separate wall offers the greatest comfort, provided the plumbing, wiring, water lines and ventilation allow it and there is enough room to move. The key is to optimise the use of space without creating congestion. Remember, a modern bathroom must first be functional and comfortable.

Today, we also benefit from geometry’s broader possibilities. Keep trends such as triangular, hexagonal and pentagonal tiles, slender finger tiles, metro tiles and mosaics in mind. If you have to rely on artificial rather than natural light, choose ambient, accent and task lighting that prioritises modern aesthetics and functionality.
Another important selection principle in a modern bathroom is consistency in the materials, forms, dimensions and colours of furniture, sanitaryware such as the shower or bath, basins and toilets, and fittings such as taps and showerheads.
