Kalebodur, Abra Design, Onaranlar Kulübü and Çan Municipality Join Forces for the Çan Public Space Transformation Project!

In its 65th year, Kalebodur continues to invest in and add value to the place where it was founded, guided by its “İyi Bak Dünyana” motto. Public spaces in Çan, Çanakkale, are being renewed through the Çan Public Space Transformation Project, led by Kalebodur’s mission to bring meaning to spaces.

Believing that a sustainable world begins with caring for the planet and, first of all, investing in one’s home and roots, Kalebodur has begun work on the project with Onaranlar Kulübü, which develops social benefit projects focused on making, repairing and sharing, and Abra Design, a studio working across scales from urban design to furniture. The project is being delivered with guidance and support from Çan Municipality.

Aiming for a comprehensive approach that considers residents’ relationship with public space and the memory of the city as a living entity, the partners first conducted a site visit guided by Çan Mayor Bülent Öz to identify the needs of the city, its residents and its public spaces.

Continuing their exploration at the Kaleseramik factory, they observed ceramic production and examined materials that could be used. By planning to use upcycled waste from the factory in a project that adds value to the town, the partners also aimed to make it an act of caring for the world.

The project’s second phase was the “Join Your City, Make Space for Yourself” workshop, inviting designers to think together and develop inclusive, solution-focused ideas. Held at Kale Design and Art Centre, the workshop began with partners sharing their experiences and observations of Çan. Participants then explored how to enrich the area selected for transformation, considering the town’s memory and residents’ organic relationship with public space.

Committed to returning value to the land, growing together through the strength of its roots and bringing meaning to living spaces, Kalebodur continues to care for its world through the ongoing Çan Public Space Transformation Project, supporting the town’s development through interventions that enrich its spaces.
