A Good Day Begins the Night Before: SLEEP

We spend an average of one-third of our lives asleep. Do you not think it is time we gave the subject a little more attention?

Your mattress is not simply a piece of furniture; it is an item supporting your health that needs to be replaced periodically. The key distinction is that old furniture may merely spoil your mood, while an old mattress directly affects your quality of life and health. Insufficient rest, constant turning and sweating during sleep, exhaustion, fatigue, absent-mindedness, difficulty concentrating, lower-back, neck and back pain, and a mood prone to depression and lacking joy are among the main consequences of sleeplessness. Remember, a third of your life is spent asleep, and that time determines the quality of the other two-thirds.

For uninterrupted, quality sleep

For a good quality of life, establish regular sleeping and waking times. This strengthens your body's sleep–wake cycle and helps you fall asleep more consistently at night. Create an ideal bedroom environment: a cool, dark, quiet and comfortable room is best for a good night's sleep. The ideal sleeping temperature is 18–20°C. A warm room or an overly thick blanket can interrupt your sleep.

The bedroom is for sleeping. Keep work, phones, tablets, computers and televisions out of your sleeping environment, as they can cause stress and anxiety.A mattress should have a spring system that supports the spine, breathable fabric and appropriate fillings. The user's height, weight and preferred sleeping positions influence mattress design. Remember that you remain comfortable when you maintain the spine's S-shaped curve during sleep.

The first step towards starting a new day refreshed is to maintain an ideal sleeping posture and support it as effectively as possible.

What can you do for better sleep?

  • Take time to choose your mattress.

  • Try the mattress before buying. Wear comfortable clothes when you go mattress shopping.

  • Pillows are among the most important factors in sleep quality. Always use the same pillow when trying mattresses so you can compare them fairly.

  • Pay attention to mattress size and choose one as large as your room allows. The ideal single mattress width is 110 cm, and the ideal double mattress width is 180 cm.

  • Ask about the mattress layers, including springs, fillings, foam and fabric.

  • Good air circulation and ventilation within the mattress are needed to prevent sweating during sleep. Remember that fabric and filling materials are the primary factors affecting ventilation.
