This foundation, which was created in 1989 as the Kaleseramik Education Foundation, with the aim of systematising the contributions to society of the Kale Group and of its Founder, especially in the fields of education, health and social activities, was renamed in 2001 as the Dr. H. Ibrahim Bodur Kaleseramik Education, Health and Social Support Foundation in recognition of the expansion of its scope.

The activities of the foundation began as nation-wide Tile and Ceramic Laying Courses, with the aim of training qualified personnel for the construction sector and helping unemployed youth find work. The detailed objectives of these courses are:

  • Training qualified personnel for the Turkish construction sector, which has been successful both nationally and internationally. Raising the expertise and number of workers active in this sector.
  • Training people who have left school and who could not otherwise be employed as layers of ceramic pavement and wall tiles, which are always required in the construction sector.
  • Reducing the problems and effects on the national economy deriving from workers with insufficient expertise.

The Foundation has trained more than 2000 young people and ensured that they could find a job. In addition to these courses, it has done nation-wide expertise development seminars for 6000 trained workers.

In 2004 the foundation expanded its training activities, in response to the new requirements of the construction sector and added "Plasterer", "Construction Site Painting", "Plumber" and "Building Insulation" courses to its existing Ceramic Pavement and Wall Tile Laying courses. The aim of these courses is to show workers active in this sector the latest technological developments and to transfer these developments to Vocational Schools.

All of the transportation, food and training expenses of the participants in these courses, which are held in various cities, are covered by the Foundation. Successful trainees are given all instruments and work clothes required by a ceramic master.

In addition to the three month routine courses done in cooperation with the Public Education Ministry in all cities with vocational schools, the foundation has organised courses as part of projects done in cooperation with different institutions like the Turkish Armed Forces, Public Institutions, the International Labour Organisation, City Administrations, Reformatories, Association of Shelters for Homeless Children and the Association for Needy Children.

In addition to these courses and seminars, the Foundation grants scholarships both for studying in Turkey and for studying in other countries, to around 100 high school or university students.

The Foundation is also continuing and increasing its aid in the field of public health by contributing to the setting up of hospitals, clinics and health care points in addition to the help its gives to various handicapped and needy people. For example the Foundation has signed an agreement with the Labour and Social Security Ministry for the establishment of a Rehabilitation Centre for Mentally Handicapped People in the Çan district of Çanakkale. This centre, which will be inaugurated in 2004, will help around 1200 handicapped people in Çanakkale and the surrounding area.
